During the 2026 General Assembly, 2026 Special Session I Appropriations Act (HB30), Item 433, Paragraph H (p. 558) directed DRPT to evaluate the feasibility of consolidating four Northern Virginia local bus systems (ART, CUE, DASH, and Fairfax Connector) into a single, unified regional bus system.
The feasibility study will be informed by input from transit agencies, local governments, regional partners, transit employees, riders, and members of the public. It will examine the potential benefits, challenges, and implementation considerations associated with consolidating some or all agency responsibilities. The study will document its findings regarding feasibility and present them to local and state decision-makers.
