The FREIGHT Program
Program Background
The Freight Rail Enhancement to Increase Goods and Highway Throughput (FREIGHT) Program is a funding program of the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT). The FREIGHT Program is dedicated to increasing the capacity and improving the functionality of the freight rail network as a vital component of the Commonwealth’s multimodal network. Benefits of this program include an increase in goods movement, a reduction in highway maintenance, and supporting Virginia’s economy.
