The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation is responsible for administering Virginia’s Rural Transit Assistance Program (RTAP). RTAP provides funding from the Federal Transit Administration 5311(b)(3) program to assist with the design and implementation of training and technical-assistance projects and other support services for transportation operators in non-urbanized areas. Rural public transportation operators receive training and technical assistance through the program.
DRPT’s Public Transit Division provides resources for training and technical assistance to rural transportation providers through RTAP.
Scholarships are available through the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) for the Rural Transit Assistance Program (RTAP), to assist rural and specialized transit operations to further the development of management skills to encourage the development of professional networks by attending transit training, seminars, workshops and conferences.

National RTAP provides a wealth of free resources for Tribal and Rural Transit Agencies. They provide free training materials, toolkits, eLearning courses, webinars and other technical assistance products. They have a comprehensive collection of resources on rural and tribal transit and can help agencies find answers to difficult questions. They can also help you to connect with peer transit agencies across the country.
National RTAP’s Annual Conference is a great opportunity to network and learn from other rural and tribal transit providers and is eligible for DRPT’s RTAP Scholarship Program.

DRPT’s WebGrants site is the portal that allows DRPT’s partners to apply for funding, submit reimbursement requests, manage grants, and report performance requirements.
