Super NoVa Transit Planning

In response to the rapid increase in congestion in Northern Virginia, DRPT has initiated a study of current and projected commuter patterns throughout the region to provide recommendations for transit and transportation demand management (TDM) enhancements needed to keep Northern Virginia moving.

The study will develop a comprehensive plan to address transit improvements necessary to move people to and from the employment centers of Northern Virginia and the Washington, D.C. area.

The study area will cover commuting within Northern Virginia as traditionally defined, as well as west from the Shenandoah Valley, south through Culpeper and Caroline counties, and east from the Northern Neck. The impact of commuters traveling from Maryland, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. into Northern Virginia will also be considered.

The project will evaluate existing and future population and employment centers to identify potential transit and TDM improvements that will increase mobility and provide greater transportation choice in the northern part of Virginia. Public and stakeholder involvement will be a significant component of the study.

The Super NoVa study is scheduled to be complete within 12 months of the study initiation.  DRPT is currently finalizing the scope of the study.
This webpage will provide more information, as the study evolves.

Kick-off meetings will be held in February. Presentations will be offered during the evening meetings at 7 p.m and 8 p.m. each night.
