Track Construction in Stafford County to Cause Limited Delays for VRE/Amtrak (updated 8/2/16)
In a continued effort to improve passenger and freight rail service between Fredericksburg and Washington D.C., construction will begin on 11 miles of a new third mainline track beginning in Stafford County and running through the Quantico Marine Corp Base. The majority of the work is scheduled to be completed by September 2017, while improvements will continue at the Quantico Station until September 2019.
VRE and Amtrak passengers can expect limited delays when cutover/crossover work is performed. Every opportunity will be made to schedule this work during off-peak commuter and passenger travel times. Passengers as well as residents in the area can also expect to see construction activity and personnel working along the corridor.
Starting May 30, 2016, construction began to renovate the Quantico Amtrak station. The first part of this project calls for the west platform and building to be demolished and removed. This work is expected to be complete in approximately one year. During this period, please note the following:
