In addition to furthering its own legislative initiatives, DRPT monitors agency and industry-related legislation as well as the Governor's Budget and proposed budget amendments throughout each General Assembly Session.
2018 Virginia General Assembly Session
On Monday, December 18, 2017, Governor Terry McAuliffe presented his final biennial budget proposal to the Virginia General Assembly. Key highlights for Rail and Public Transportation include:
- Dedicated funding to WMATA to meet Virginia's $150 million annual share of the transit agency's additional $500 million in annual capital needs. Also includes dedicated funding to Virginia Railway Express
- Reauthorization of $110 million in annual Capital Project Revenue Bonds for statewide transit capital projects. Directs the CTB to develop a prioritization process for the statewide transit capital program
- Dedicated funding for federally mandated state safety oversight of fixed rail guideway transit agencies
The 2018 legislative session is scheduled to begin on January 10, 2018. As that date approaches, DRPT will continue to post its legislative priorities and its agency-supported bills and budget amendments.
